Senegal

The Senegalese Government, as well as various public and private institutions, have increasingly expressed their interest in entrepreneurship education. In 2002 the employers’ organisation Conseil National du Patronat (CNP), with help from the ILO,  prepared an action plan for pilot testing KAB in a group of five selected technical secondary schools in Dakar. The pilot test was conducted in the 2003-2004 school year, reaching 250 students.

As the pilot test had ended with great acceptance the Ministry of Education announced its intention to integrate entrepreneurship education at secondary general education, secondary vocational and technical education, and university levels.  In 2006, the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training, supported by of the ILO (through the project Gérez Mieux Votre Entreprise - GERME) and the Cooperation Mission of Luxembourg, began a new KAB pilot and organized a regional KAB training workshop for Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters in Dakar with 15 participants from Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Ivory Coast. Concurrently, universities in Dakar were presented with the new KAB distance learning programme and interest for the KAB programme was spiked.

During the 2006-2007 school year, another pilot test was launched in vocational education institutions and after positive feedback from both Facilitators and students, the KAB programme was accepted and devlievered beginning the following school year. In 2007 and 2008, two other KAB training workshops were carried out for Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters. In total, KAB is being implemented in technical secondary schools and vocational training centres from nine locations (Louga, Linguère, Kébemer, St Louis, Richard Toll, Dagana, Podor, Matam, Dakar), and these institutions include the Centre of Technical Education for Girls and Women (CETF), the Regional Centres of Technical Education for Girls and Women (CRETF), the District Centre of Vocational Training (CDFP), the Centre of Vocational and Commercial Training (CFPC), and the National Vocational School of Family and Social Economy (ENFEFS).
