A training workshop was conducted in 2005 at the ILO-ITC, where representatives from the national organization Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) and the Department of Education of the PNG government were in attendance. Consequently, their participation led to the decision to attempt a coordinated roll out of KAB  first by setting up a national training workshop for Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters which was conducted in 2006, gathering participants from 7 technical and vocational training (TVET) institutions. During the workshop, a plan for a national curriculum on entrepreneurship education was developed.

During the 2006-2007 school year, the participating 7 TVET institutions taught KAB modules to their students, and a new training workshop with new TVET institutions was carried out. By the end of 2007, a total of 30 Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters had been trained from 17 TVET participating in the pilot exercise, and 170 students had been reached. All of this occured despite high staff turnover rates which were tremendous losses in institutions’ capacity to deliver KAB.

A decision was made in 2008 ito refocus the pilot projects to apply in secondary schools and 4 workshops were carried out, certifying 70 Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters from 33 secondary schools located in the country’s southern region ((NCD Central), Momase (Morobe), Highlands (EHP) and New Guinea Islands (ENBP)). All participating schools will have begun pilot tests by the 2009-2010 school year.

All in all, it is currently estimated that a total of 92 Facilitators, Trainers and Promoters have been trained to teach or promote KAB around the country and that 50 education and training institutions (TVET and secondary education) have delivered KAB to around 2,740 students. These figures are expected to increase as the pilot project in secondary education is carried out and follow-up refresher workshops are conducted in 2009. Finally, in 2011 an Internal Evaluation of KAB is expected to be carried out, and a country-wide expansion of KAB is planned for 2012.
